Welcome to Phoebe AppersonHearst Library of Lead, SD
(Click the Blog Icon to access our direct link.) Our library is located on Main Street between The Historic Homestake Opera House and the Black Hills Mining Museum. Stop in for a cup of coffee or cappuccino and stay to read a book or newspaper. We also have free internet access that includes many state online databases, such as AncestryLibrary, World Book Online, and the Digital Sanborn Maps. Library cards are free for Lawrence County residents. Name, address, and official proof of residency are required to apply for a card. Children may get their own library card after completing 1st grade. It is Phoebe Apperson Hearst Library's mission to give residents of all ages the means to continue to grow and learn throughout their lives; to get answers to their questions; to find, evaluate, and use information effectively; to satisfy their recreational reading interests; and to meet and interact with others in the community. You can find lots of fun stuff on our website. Check out the About Us link above to learn more about the library's history and policies and to see our photo album. The Community Links page will take you to the websites of other Lead attractions and a community calendar.
